The Scrapbook

We have been delighted to help out one of our composers this year by editing and publishing The Belshazzar's Feast Scrapbook.

Belshazzar's Feast were a folk duo comprising of Paul Hutchinson (Pagoda, Coracle, The Maniacs) and the late Paul Sartin (Bellowhead, Faustus). The duo were known for their unique blend of folk music and comedy along with their fine musicianship. Sadly, after 27 years together, in September 2022 Paul Sartin died suddenly, leaving a hole in the Folk and music world and also some unfinished business with Belshazzar's Feast.

They had always planned a 'scrapbook' of sorts, combining unseen photos from performances and backstage, with anecdotes, reviews, sheet music, general irreverence and much more, to document the legacy of the band and the lives of the two friends and bandmates.

Performing and other commitments meant that the project never got further than an enormous box of memorabilia and it's only now that Paul H has been able to start going through all the material amassed over the years to curate into a publishable book. As Moonhouse Music are publishers of Paul H's sheet music, we reached out to try and help support him make this unique project happen.

After a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and two months of hard work, tight deadlines and crossed fingers, the books arrived from the printers ahead of schedule for the official book launch at the Chippenham Folk Festival at the end of May 2023.

The books are currently on the way to the backers and details of how to order further copies will be announced closer to the book launch. If you’re interested in getting a copy, please feel free to email us in advance.

Basically, we’ve gone completely over the top on this crowdfunding project, once we heard the full details about the musicians and the backstory, we couldn’t do anything other than try to get this done, one way or another. Moonhouse Music have approached this project from a non-profit perspective, we’re glad we’ve been able to cover basic costs of design (at cost) but we’ve also put in many many hours or the sake of it, completely overboard, to get this designed, printed, checked, packaged and delivered before the due date. We really believe that the legacy of the Pauls needs documenting. On top of this, the company pick a cause to donate to every year out of profits and this year we’ve chosen to make a charitable contribution on behalf of Belshazzar’s Feast for a local venue to buy an AED / lifesaving equipment in memory of Paul Sartin.
