Right Turn - Route 2 is a selection of original  jazz and swing tunes for saxophone evoking the jazz clubs of old, dreamy emotional ballads alongside uptempo swing and more modern-leaning gospel and latin styles.

The resulting confection will excite the palettes of intermediate players looking for tasteful tunes, lush harmonies and the opportunity to explore their instrument through improvisational passages, supported by a live band.

This collection of seven fabulous original Jazz swing pieces for the intermediate saxophonist was inspired by many of the greats, with each having two versions: one with a full notated sax solo and a second version with an improvisation section (with chords notated).

The book includes:

Tubb's Club - A perky number that really bounces along. Sections contrast between a bright and edgy and more chilled relaxed grooves. Enjoy the great way the solo (bars 25 - 48) is articulated and played freely in the fully notated version or create your own solo via the other version of Tubb's Club (with chords section for soloing over)

A Beleza - A Beleza embraces a chilled Latin style with a repeated sequence/phrase. There is so much space in this piece that we must be mindful not to overfill the solo section (bars 18 - 25 repeated) with too many notes! Again, you have the option of creating your own original solo using the improvised version, or, play the fully notated version.

Stay Close - On the smoother Jazz side, enjoy adding your own embellishments and freedom of time

by sometimes varying the written rhythms (as the demo track demonstrates). A secure sense of pulse is needed due to the slow tempo, and concentrate carefully on the time changes! Two versions are included in the book: fully notated solo and a version to improvise a section to via chord symbols.

L.W.A.P - L.W.A.P has a real mix of soulful sounds and lighter/darker moods. Aim to alter your tone colours

in order to capture the brighter/darker flavours. Embellishments should sound carefree and effortless. You have the option of playing the fully notated version or the version with a section of chords for improvising over.

Must Ring Solly - Articulation is key for the best results in this piece. You'll see that some embellishments have been notated to enable you to emulate the demonstration track. A fully notated version is given in addition to another which has a section of improvisation included (chords given).

Flows Ebb - This upbeat Gospel number has a real earworm of a riff and takes us from a bright sunny sound to a more reflective mood (bars 15 - 24 etc). Embellishments (scoops and grace notes) are recommended, but, as always, you decide what's best for your own performance. Keep it light and playful in the main theme. As with the other pieces in the book you get the choice of playing from the fully notated version, or the one with a section for improvisation.

Sogni D'Oro - Don't rush this beautiful late night Latin - feel melody, as space and a delicious warm tone will really bring out the best result. Enjoy pulling the notes around rhythmically (as the demonstration track shows) to capture that laid back Jazz style. Again, there are two versions of Sogni D'Oro included in the book: one is fully notated and one has a section for improvisation.
